Levi Wedel: Director of Sales and Marketing
I was born and raised in KS. Growing up I split my time between my father’s dairy farm and my mother’s house in Newton, KS. My parents split up when I was very young so it afforded me the best of both worlds the way I saw it. Weekends and holidays were spent working on the farm. I have many memories of growing up helping out with everything from the milking, cleaning the barn, walking the fence, and all the fun things that go along with rural living. Hunting, fishing, building hay forts, and driving the four wheelers were among my favorite pastimes after the chores were done. The other half of the time was spent in the city. My grandparent and relatives helped raised my sister and I in the early days as my mother was working and single at the time. We stayed there until I was in the 6th grade when we picked up and moved to a larger, nicer suburb of Wichita KS which was a much bigger place then I was used to. After high school I immediately enrolled into community college in town not sure exactly what I wanted to do with myself. After that I moved up to Lawrence and finished out my degree at the University of Kansas. Having a handful of friends who were attending and the fact that I am a way bigger basketball fan than football made the decision easy. My professional life after college started at a bank in town where I was a personal banker doing everything from opening savings accounts, to selling loans, to signing people up for credit cards. It was amazing to me the amount of confusion out there as to what people should do with their money. It happened almost every day where we would see a customer come into the bank with over $100 thousand just sitting in a checking account. I would get asked all the time what we recommend for them to invest in with little more to offer then a CD paying 1%. That first job opened my eyes to the fact that there are a lot of people out there who need help and direction with their financial life. I knew from there I wanted to pursue the financial services industry. My next job was with a small broker dealer based out of the KC area. I was hired on as a financial advisor in 2009 at the age of 24. Obviously not the best time to start selling VA’s and mutual funds but the training I was exposed to was first class and really laid the foundation for my current role. I was referred to Advisors Excel in October of 2010 as the 80th employee. At the time, the company was just about 5 years old and after speaking with the owners it was clear the opportunity and growth this company offered. When not at the office, I enjoy being outdoors. I love to go deer hunting and it’s something I have done every year with my dad on our farm for the last 10 years in a row. I also recently started learning how to snowboard and have found it challenging and a ton of fun! Being in KS we have a lot of lakes so I spend time every summer camping, boating, hiking, and fishing. Another passion of mine is traveling and seeing new places, through work events and personal vacation I average about 15 trips a year.
